Who is Henry Higgins?

Henry Higgins is a creative identity — a quiet observer, a storyteller, and a companion to the Australian wilderness. This persona allows for a focus on the landscapes themselves, rather than the individual behind the lens.

Inspired by the legacies of Peter Dombrovskis and Olegas Truchanas, Henry's work is a tribute to the enduring beauty and complexity of Australia's natural environments. Each image and narrative is an invitation to experience the land's subtle rhythms and to foster a deeper connection with the places that often go unnoticed.

The philosophy guiding this work is rooted in the understanding of the Australian landscape as a 'cultural landscape' — a term reflecting the intricate tapestry of human and environmental interactions over millennia. This perspective acknowledges the continuous stewardship of Indigenous communities, particularly the Gumbaynggirr people, whose connection to the land remains integral.

Through photography and storytelling, Henry Higgins seeks to honor these connections, encouraging a mindful engagement with the environment that respects its history, its present, and its future.

The Office

If you can't get hold of me, it is because I am probably working. My office has limited reception.

The lands I photograph and explore have been cared for over millennia by an unbroken lineage of Traditional Custodians.
In most cases, this is the land of the Gumbaynggirr people.

Their deep connection to Country — physical, cultural, and spiritual — continues today.

I acknowledge and pay my respects to the Gumbaynggirr Elders, past and present, and to all First Nations people who continue to care for Country across this continent.
